videobusts

Before starting working on this project, i had spend lots of time in the sculpture studio, been working with clay, making busts and generally working around the material. At the same time i was also fascinated with video and it’s potential combination with traditional sculpture.
At that time, i was really influenced by Tony Oursler’s work and usage or sculptural space in video installations and fascinated with Bill Viola’s and Gary Hill’s aesthetic standards and quality. I wanted to experiment and create something new for me. To combine elements that i like and use my own knowledge. To play.
I have been living in the sculpture studio for a while and i was surrounded by numerous easels with busts in progress, wrapped in plastic bags. That was the material i knew and have been working with so in a few days i had a rough version of the videobusts, with still pictures of portraits projected on the busts.
I was really interested in the result and the strength of the installation and i had been working on it and developing it over the next year as a side project. I also had the opportunity to exhibit it a couple of times. In every exhibition I’ve been making the whole installation from scratch and the still projected pictures from the prototype had been replaced by slow motion videos.
